ROMPIN, Aug 11 — Those who have problems pertaining to the Pokemon Go virtual game application are requested to submit a complaint directly to the company that developed the application, Niantic Inc in the United States.
Communications and Multimedia Deputy Minister Datuk Jailani Johari said complaints can be lodged if they are disturbed by the virtual monster catching game in places of worship or locations where they can interfere with safety.
Complaints can be submitted on the website http://www.nianticlabs.com or by writing to the company at the address Niantic Inc, 2 Bryant Street Suite 220, San Francisco, CA94105, United States, he said.
“This address is on the Facebook page of the ministry. The ministry has also issued guidelines regarding the Pokemon Go game on the website of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
“We understand that the Pokemon Go phenomenon has swept the world, but we do not want people to be too preoccupied to capture the virtual monster until they compromise on safety or disturb places of worship which have been turned into Pokestop or Pokegym,” he said.
Jailani was speaking to reporters after launching the programme ‘Apa Kata Gen Y Malaysia #sehatisejiwa’ organised by the Pahang Information Department and Universiti Tenaga Nasional Malaysia (Uniten) Muadzam Shah campus at Dewan Besar Dara here, today.
Jailani also advised Pokemon Go players to take time to read the guidelines, especially regarding the protection of personal data, online fraud, not to enter restricted and hazardous areas as well as to respect religious sensitivities.
“The guidelines are to help. The Pokemon Go issue also involves the Home Ministry if it involves security restricted areas and the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) when related to religion,” he said.
He also advised people not to spend too much time with the Pokemon Go game, and instead use the internet wisely for academic purposes and to generate income. — Bernama
