JOHOR BARU, Aug 6 — The police detained a policeman at the Seri Alam police headquarters near here today, over his alleged racist statements posted on Facebook two days ago.

Johor police chief Datuk Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said the 28-year-old suspect, believed to have owned and used a Facebook account by the name of ‘Rozaini Rosdi’, was detained at 4.15pm.

He said the racist statement posted over the social media could cause disruption to public order and jeopardise racial harmony among the country’s multi-racial society.

“(We) also seized a mobile phone which was used by the suspect to upload the racist remarks via Facebook,” he said in a statement here today.

The suspect, attached to the Desa Cemerlang police station is investigated under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.  — Bernama
