SHAH ALAM, Aug 4 — The Education Ministry is still awaiting the final report on a teacher from a Tamil school in Klang allegedly attempting suicide by drinking poison after receiving criticisms about her work performance.

Deputy Minister Datuk P. Kamalanathan said the action to be taken could only be decided on after receiving the report from the Selangor Education Department.

“It is too early for me to say anything on this matter until I get the report,” he told the media after closing the 54th annual general meeting of the Selangor branch of the Malaysian Council of School Principals at the Management and Science University here today.

It was reported  that the 37-year-old teacher was found unconscious by her husband at their home at about 6.30pm on Friday.

The mother of two, who teaches Maths and English, was rushed to the Klang Hospital where she underwent emergency treatment.

Her husband lodged a police report which included a recording of the teacher speaking about the show-cause letter she received for poor work performance.

The other staff of the school and parents who visited the teacher at the hospital also lodged police reports demanding an investigation into the incident.

Asked about the teacher saying that she drank poison because of pressure from the headmistress, Kamalanathan said the school principal had been transferred temporarily to the Selangor Education Department pending resolution of the matter. — Bernama
