KUALA LUMPUR, June 23 — A salesman on a high-performance motorcycle has been arrested after police spotted him escorting 10 super-bikers and two cars on Tuesday.
The 39-year-old man had used a Harley Davidson motorcycle, complete with strobe lights, siren and police motifs. The word “Police” was also displayed on the motorcycle windshield.
Kuala Lumpur traffic investigations and legal affairs officer DSP Shafie Daud said the suspect had his siren and strobe lights on when detained.
“The siren was even louder than our own bikes,” he said, adding the man’s entourage fled.
Police said the suspect was arrested at about 10.45pm as the convoy was travelling from Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman towards Dataran Merdeka.
“Our standard-issue traffic police motorcycles are either a Honda or Kawasaki, and certainly not a RM155,000 Harley Davidson,” he said.
He said although the suspect claimed he was merely escorting his friends, he was aware that what he did was illegal.
Shafie said police are currently investigating whether the suspect had offered such services in the past.
“The motorcycle that was used was also registered to another individual and we are investigating its status,” he said, urging those who were involved to come forward.
The incident is similar to two cases in which three men were arrested in the city earlier this year.
On January 5, a char koay teow seller and a security guard had used high-powered motorcycles, outrider outfits and blaring sirens to escort luxury cars.
On June 13, a funeral parlour agent was arrested while escorting seven vehicles, including a hearse after he ordered a police patrol car to make way in Cheras.
