JOHOR BARU, Nov 26 —  He checked into a hotel room that costs almost RM1,000 per night at the Legoland Theme Park. When he checked out, he coolly carted away all the decorative Lego items from his room, worth an estimated RM22,500.

The 37-year-old lorry driver, who is said to be a collector of Lego items, was arrested at his home in Segamat in the early hours of Tuesday morning with 11 stolen items in his possession.

The items included Lego insects and animals, a bed sheet, pillow and a coffee tray, all of which had the Legoland logo on it.

Nusajaya deputy police chief DSP Ismail Dollah said the man also tested positive for ketamin.

He has been remanded for two days from yesterday for further investigations.

“We were acting on a police report lodged by the hotel management over the items, which were missing  from the room after the man checked out.

“A task force was formed and after viewing a closed-circuit television camera recording in the hotel, we identified the suspect, who was seen leaving the hotel with a big bag. We arrested him at his house in Jementah and he admitted stealing the items,” he said.

A hotel spokesman said the items stolen were expensive because it took time and effort to put them together.

“It’s a work of art.”
