KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 13 — A phone call made at 10.30pm yesterday to a mobile phone belonging to a Malaysian pilgrim who went missing following the Makkah crane collapse tragedy, was answered by an Arab man.
This was told by Noor Farehah Abu Bakar, 35, on her ongoing efforts to contact her mother Zainun Taha, 69, who was among the eight Malaysian pilgrims missing in Friday’s tragedy at the Grand Mosque.
“Unfortunately, we could not communicate as we are not able to speak Arabic and the man did not understand English,” she said when met at her mother’s house in Bukit Antarabangsa, here, today.
She said her mother had rarely failed to answer phone calls from her children.
“At least, my mother would call us back,” she told reporters after receiving a visit from Tabung Haji managing director and chief executive officer Tan Sri Ismee Ismail to give an update on the search for the missing pilgrims.
Noor Farehah said she and her three other siblings would continue to pray that their mother would be found as soon as possible, and would accept whatever the outcome.
According to Noor Farehah, Zainun left for the Holy Land on Sept 9 with the latter’s sister-in-law Faridah Mansor, 63, who broke her left ankle in the incident, which was probably due to bad weather.
The crane collapse incident has reportedly claimed 107 lives and caused injuries to 238 more, including 10 Malaysians. — Bernama
