KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 ― A 51-year-old bottle of Glenlivet topped the charts for the priciest single malt whisky to be sold in an online auction here last Friday ― RM96,000.

The new owners are four Malaysian whisky lovers who decided to pool their funds to snag the rare bottle from Glenlivet’s 1964 Winchester collection, tagged Bottle No 3.

“It’s not often that Malaysia is presented with such a unique bottle of whisky so when we heard that it was coming to Malaysia, we thought we ought to go for it. Maybe 1964 being the auspicious year of the Wood Dragon had something to do with it too,” said one of the four buyers, all of whom declined to be named.

The online auction drew over 200 bidders at its close at 8pm last Friday.
