KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 — The war between Gang 24 and Gang 36 has escalated with another killing at Kampung Melayu, Batu Caves, yesterday.
Police said the deceased, M. Ganeshwaran, 22, was shot in the chest before being hacked with machetes by several masked men during the 1.30am attack.
The victim’s two friends, aged 20 and 24, were also injured in the attack and were rushed to Selayang Hospital.
Police said seven suspected Gang 24 members were seen hanging out at the football field in Taman Amaniah during the incident.
“Four men disembarked from a white Proton Saga and fired two shots at the victims, before more suspects in a MyVi chased after the fleeing victims and started slashing them.
Police are currently looking for the suspects believed to be from Gang 36 in Intan Baiduri area, Selayang.
One of the victims had a previous record for intentionally causing hurt with dangerous weapons.
All the victims lived in the nearby Putri Laksamana flats, and held jobs such as a store keeper and assistant lorry driver.
Gombak police chief ACP Ali Ahmad confirmed the incident.
“We currently have leads on the target and I can confirm one person died in the incident.”
Last month, police disclosed a gang war for control of the drugs trade and territorial power in Klang Valley was taking place after the murder of several members from Gang 24 and Gang 36.
Police are investigating the killing spree following a series of tit-for-tat murders between the two gangs.
Gangs 24 and 36 are involved in extortion, organised crime and robbery, mainly targeting business operators. They are known to recruit new and younger members from schools.
Bukit Aman CID director Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh last week said police were now trying to identify recent gang members.
He also said police elite squads had formed a taskforce to investigate the recent spate of shooting cases linked to gang rivalry.
