KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 8 — A bomb, believed to be remnants of World War Two (II), was found buried on a trail ascending Bukit Putih at Taman Hartamas in Cheras, here and destroyed at about 3.10pm.

Kajang Police Chief ACP Ab Rashid Ab Wahab said the old bomb, measuring 47cm long and 43cm (circumference), was discovered by a passer-by who was walking along the trail on Saturday night.

“The 226kg bomb, which was half-buried, is a British Mark 1-952 model made in 1951. It was still active and could have exploded anytime. The Bomb Disposal Unit rushed to inspect and later destroyed it,” he told reporters at the scene.

The task was carried out by a team of 36 officers and personnel from the Bukit Aman Bomb Disposal Unit, Kuala Lumpur Police Headquarters and Selangor Police Headquarters.

He said destruction of the bomb was done in stages as its explosion could reach a distance of 1.4km.
