SEREMBAN, Aug 30 — The MCA election machinery is making preparations for the Pengkalan Kubor by-election in Kelantan on September 25.

MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the party has formed a committee at central level to coordinate work on the ground.

The central committee is led by MCA deputy president Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong while the state level committee is lead by MCA vice-president Datuk Dr Hou Kok Chung.

“Datuk Wee visited Pengkalan Kubor yesterday. We will organise more programmes to reach out to the people,” he told reporters after opening the Negeri Sembilan MCA Convention here, today.

Liow, who is also the Minister of Transport, said Pengkalan Kubor has over 200 Chinese voters and about 2,000 voters from the Siamese community.

“I hope Pengkalan Kubor voters will continue to support the government’s transformation agenda as we only have six years to achieve developed nation status.”

The state by-election was called following the death of Pengkalan Kubor State Assemblyman Datuk Noor Zahidi Omar on August 20.

Noor Zahidi, from the Barisan Nasional (BN), died from liver cancer in a hospital in Guangzhou, China.

The Election Commission (EC) had set nomination for the Pengkalan Kubor by-election on September 13 with polling on September 25. — Bernama
