KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 — Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd (Prasarana) today announced a naming rights exercise for its Light Rail Transit (LRT) and monorail stations, the first of its kind in Southeast Asia.
Prasarana Intergrated Development Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Rudyanto Azhar said under the scheme, corporations or brands can bid for the right to transform a station to reflect the brand’s corporate identity and name the station after themselves, with successful bidders offering facilities like free wi-fi for commuters or a station upgrade.
“Another objective of this programme is to make Kuala Lumpur a world-class city, and for a start, the Bukit Bintang, Bangsar and Universiti stations will be available,” he told a media conference here today.
Rudyanto said such schemes have been implemented for the New York Metro, Metro Madrid, Dubai Metro and Mumbai Metro, while the Emirates Stadium, AT & T Station in Philadelphia and Vodafone Sol Station in Madrid have also implemented it.
The scheme is carried out in partnership with out-of-home advertising agency Big Tree Outdoor Sdn Bhd and UK-based marketing and sponsorhsip specialist Phar Partnerships.
Rudyanto said the tender document will be released on July 15 and closing date is Sept 20, with the first stations expected to be launched in December this year. — Bernama
