TELUK INTAN, May 31 — Dozens of Barisan Nasional (BN) supporters in blue swarmed a police cordon in front of SK Kg Bahagia today when DAP candidate Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud entered to visit the polling centre.
The BN supporters demanded police eject a group of men in red DAP T-shirts, claiming that the latter were intruding into the 50m buffer zone around polling centres.
When told by the police that they were committing the same offence they were accusing the rivals of and in greater numbers, the BN supporters insisted they would calmly retreat but only if their rivals were first removed.
They then kept shouting, but relented when the purported DAP supporters moved out of the zone.
The BN supporters were part of a bigger group that had continually aimed taunts and expletives against a rival camp of Pakatan Rakyat (PR) backers across them, resulting in a shouting match in front of the school.
An empty patch controlled by the police separates the two camps.
Loud boos and jeering could be heard from the BN tent as Dyana exited the centre after her visit.
SK Kg Bahagia was one of the six polling centres visited by Dyana today, together with DAP’s Pasir Bedamar assemblyman Terence Naidu.
Dyana, 26, faces BN’s Datuk Mah Siew Keong, 53, in a straight fight today.
As of 3pm, 58.36 per cent or 34,974 of the 60,349 registered voters have cast their ballots.
