KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has ordered the Malaysian Embassy in Turkey to assist PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang who has been hospitalised for breathing difficulties there.

Najib is currently in Beijing, China to commemorate 40 years of diplomatic ties with the superpower.

“I was informed that DS Hadi Awang was warded in a hospital in Istanbul. This morning I had contacted the embassy (there) to ensure that DS is given the necessary help,” Najib said in his posting on microblogging site Twitter.

Meanwhile PKR advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said in a statement that he contacted Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan for help and that the latter’s office has pledged to provide the necessary assistance to the PAS leader.

“Immediately after hearing the news, Opposition Leader cum advisor of PKR Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has contacted the office of Recep Tayyip Erdogan. (The Turkish Prime Minister’s Office) has pledged to give all possible assistance to Hadi.” PKR said in a statement.

The statement was issued following reports of Najib’s instruction to the Malaysian embassy in Istanbul.

Hadi was reported to have been hospitalised last night after he complained of breathing difficulties during his trip to Turkey.

According to PAS online organ Harakahdaily, Hadi was on an official visit to meet with the Turkish leadership.

Party information chief Datuk Mahfuz Omar was quoted by the portal as saying that the PAS president is now under specialists care.

“We pray that Tuan Guru (Hadi) will recover soon and return to Malaysia to lead the party.

“To all supporters of Pakatan Rakyat especially of PAS, let us continue to pray so that Tuan Guru’s health may recover,” he was quoted as saying.

Hadi’s son and PAS Youth deputy chief Khalil Abdul was also quoted saying that Hadi was in stable condition.

The PAS delegation led by Hadi is expected to return on June 4.
