TELUK INTAN, May 31 — An Umno MP accused of entering a polling centre here in Barisan Nasional (BN) garb and without a pass said he was only there to relieve himself after five hours of “campaigning”.
Pasir Salak MP Datuk Tajuddin Abdul Rahman told reporters that he went to the school’s washroom after he was suggested so by a local.
“I only went to the toilet, but they said I was campaigning,” Tajuddin explained himself to reporters here.
“Should I have removed my shirt instead?” he asked, referring to his blue batik shirt adorned with the iconic scales of Barisan Nasional.
A photo of him was circulated online earlier today as proof that he was flouting the law.
DAP’s Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud also alleged that Tajuddin was seen walking at a voting centre here in a BN shirt, in violation of election rules prohibiting campaigning at polling stations.
The 26-year-old Teluk Intan hopeful said she and other DAP members, including Pasir Bedamar assemblyman Terence Naidu, witnessed the incident this afternoon at the SK Kg Bahagia polling station today.
Party symbols and material are not allowed within a 50m buffer zone around polling centres on election day.
Campaigning activities must also stop at midnight of the eve of polling.
