TELUK INTAN, May 30 — DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang demanded today that Teluk Intan Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Datuk Mah Siew Keong take full responsibility for the dubious event where over 150 DAP members allegedly defected to the ruling pact.

Last night, Umno information chief Datuk Ahmad Maslan reportedly blamed MIC for the dodgy function, where three Indian women were presented to the media as DAP members who switched sides to BN.

One of the three later insisted that she is still a member of the DAP, while some of those at the function claimed they have always been BN supporters.

“Mah Siew Keong must bear full responsibility,” Lim told a press conference at the DAP operations centre here today.

After the BN function, which took place last Tuesday night at Taman Desa Bakti here, hampers containing basic food items like flour, sugar and milk powder were handed out to the predominantly Indian crowd.

After Ahmad pushed the buck to MIC, the Indian party’s Teluk Intan chief M. Sivamani told The Malay Mail Online that the event at Taman Desa Bakti fell under the Kg Banjar voting district controlled by Umno.

Sivamani, however, said he could not recall whether the function - which was officiated by Ahmad - was organised by Umno or MIC.

Mah will take on DAP’s Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud in a straight fight for the Teluk Intan federal seat in Perak tomorrow.
