TELUK INTAN, May 28 ― Campaigning in Teluk Intan has been suspended for the day by both camps as a mark of respect to the late Sultan of Perak Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah who died this afternoon.
The DAP was originally scheduled to hold a press conference and book launch in the evening, followed by a rally in Kg Bahagia here tonight.
It will, however, proceed with its fund-raising dinner at New Pao Long Restaurant this evening.
“Campaign is put on pause as a mark of respect to the passing of Perak Sultan and there will be no press event until further notice,” campaign manager Tony Pua informed reporters here.
Gerakan by-election campaign director Datuk Chang Ko Youn also confirmed that BN’s candidate Datuk Mah Siew Keong’s campaign has been temporarily postponed until tomorrow evening.
Meanwhile, it is understood that two Barisan Nasional (BN) ministerial events involving Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan and Deputy Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Tajuddin Abdul Rahman will proceed as scheduled tonight, but without any entertainment.
Two other programmes scheduled for tonight involving Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Shafie Apdal and Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Hamim Samuri have yet to be cancelled.
