PETALING JAYA, May 1 — A Form Three student from a religious school in Rawang died after he was allegedly involved in a fight with another student from the same school.

The incident happened at 11.30pm on Tuesday near the school’s handball court.

Selangor deputy police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Jaafar said the alleged fight between the two boys occurred when the victim, Mohd Abdul Azim Adnan, 15, had accused his schoolmate, also 15, of stealing his Rubik’s cube.

“Based on preliminary investigation, the victim was the first to attack his school mate. This led to the other boy to throw three punches on the victim’s face,” he said.

He said Abdul Azim later collapsed and became unconscious.

“One of the students who witnessed the fight alerted the school warden who sent Abduol Azim to Selayang Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival,” he said.

“No weapons were used by both students. The suspect has been detained and the case is being investigated for murder.”

Abdul Rahim said police were awaiting the post mortem results to determine the cause of death.

Abdul Azim’s father, Adnan, 54, said he was informed about the incident at about 12.40am.

“When I received a call from the school, somehow I knew it will be bad news. But when I was informed that my son was dead I just could not believe it,” he said.

He said Abdul Azim was an average student who excelled in extra curricular activities.

“Although he only came home twice a month, we were very close,” he said.

Adnan said the father of the suspect had met him and apologised over the incident.

“Of course, I am angry and sad but as a Muslim, I have to control my anger and accept their apology,” he said.

Deputy Education Minister P. Kamalanathan said a special team had been tasked with investigating the matter which resulted in the death of the student from Sekolah Menengah Agama Rawang.

Expressing his sadness over the incident, he said the team was also working with the police on the case.

“Although it is a police case now, the ministry will ensure a full investigation is conducted,” he said.

Selangor executive councillor in charge of Islamic affairs Sallehen Mukhyi said the school came under the purview of the Selangor Islamic Religious Department and was registered under the Education Ministry.
