KUALA LUMPUR, April 18 — The law firm of the late Karpal Singh will apply to postpone the cases handled by the late Bukit Gelugor MP, some 97 this month alone, following his death in a car crash yesterday.

The News Strait Times reported today that Karpal Singh & Co’s clerk, Faridah Abu, as saying that the firm will send letters to courts requesting for postponement.

“Due to the huge number of cases he was handling, we are trying our best to apply for postponement of the cases,” the 49-year-old said.

The local English daily reported that Faridah has been with the firm since 2009 and Karpal’s death came as a shock when she was told by a chambering student.

She only believed when veteran DAP politician’s daughter, Sangeet Kaur Deo, confirmed her “worst fears”.

Karpal, 73, was killed after the Toyota Alphard MPV he was travelling in collided with a lorry along the North-South Highway near Gopeng, Perak at about 1.10am morning yesterday.

Karpal leaves behind a wife, five children and 11 grandchildren.

* Note: An earlier version of this story erroneously reported that Karpal has four grandchildren. It has since been corrected. The error is much regretted.
