MALACCA, Nov 25 — The opposition has failed to appoint a leader in the state assembly to replace Duyong State Assemblyman Goh Leong San who resigned on October 8.
Speaker Datuk Othman Muhamad told the State Assembly here today, he has not received the state assemblyman’s name to fill the vacancy in the opposition rank.
“I had written to the Pakatan Rakyat headquarters more than a month but there is still no replacement,” he said.
Othman was replying to a question from Datuk Ghazale Mohamad (BN-Rim) who urged the state assembly to announce the name of the opposition leader in Malacc.
He said it aims to facilitate state assemblymen from the Barisan Nasional (BN) when dealing with the opposition.
Goh, who is also the Malacca DAP chairman, did not give his reason for resigning as the opposition leader in the Malacca State Assembly.
The DAP won six while PAS only won of the 28 state seats contested in Malacca in the 13th general election (GE13).
Meanwhile, the absence of the opposition leader led to potshots from BN state assemblymen, including Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron who described the opposition as a “pretty good team, but difficult without the head.” — Bernama
