KUANTAN, Nov 25 — The Pahang government has set up a special integrated committee to tackle the problem of illegal clearing of land in the state, especially in Cameron Highlands and Rompin.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob said this special committee made up of the state Land and Mines Department, District Office and Royal Malaysian Police would have their first meeting today to take immediate action on the worsening problem.

“In fact, I recently received a report stating the involvement of a certain influential individual in the issue when he threatened the enforcement officers who detected the illegal clearing of land in the Blue Valley, Cameron Highlands.

“In the incident, a group of workers were using 10 to 15 tractors and bulldozers in front of a Hindu temple,” he said in reply to a question from Datuk Wan Kadri Wan Mahusain (BN-Bukit Ibam) at the state assembly sitting, here, today.

Wan Kadri wanted know about the illegal land clearing problem in Pahang and the state governments’ action to overcome the problem.

Adnan said he himself had done aerial surveys of the problem.

In this regard, he invited Leong Ngah Ngah (DAP-Tanah Rata) to follow him in an helicopter on such an aerial survey to see for himself the extent of illegal land clearing in the hill resort of Cameron Highlands.

Leong had earlier asked Adnan about the need for the state government to have more frequent surveillance of the problem using as helicopter. — Bernama
