KUANTAN, Nov 20 — The Pahang State Assembly was today told that shooting incidents that happened in the state were linked to the release of 2,600 hard-core criminals.

Pahang Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob said the government due to pressure from the opposition and civil society movements was forced to repeal the Internal Security Act and the Emergency Ordinance, both of which allow for detention without trial.

“And it has been proven that the shootings are linked to the release of these hard-core criminals (due to the repealing of the two acts),” he said when replying to a question from Lee Chean Chung (DAP-Semambu) at the state assembly sitting here today.

He added that there were 41 cases involving the use of firearms in the state from April till July and that most of the cases had been solved.

On the murder of Pahang Islamic Religious Department enforcement chief Ahmad Raffli Abd Malik on November 10, Adnan said he was confident that the suspects would be caught soon. — Bernama
