KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18 — DAP has expelled Sarawak’s Pujut state assemblyman Fong Pau Teck with immediate effect, announced DAP’s deputy chairman Tan Kok Wai.

Tan who is also the party’s disciplinary committee chairman said in a statement issued here today, the decision was based on the fact that Fong had “displayed various acts of disobedience, hence breaching party discipline on a many occasions”.

“Fong’s refusal to pay the mandatory monthly contribution to the party as well as the arrears owing to the party as a result of the increment in the allowance for Sarawak state assemblymen, constituted an act of insubordination to the party’s directive,” he said.

Therefore, Tan said the committee found that Fong has set a bad precedent, which is unpardonable and as such the disciplinary committee has reached an unanimous decision to expel him from the party.

Fong has 14 days to appeal in writing against the party’s decision.

If Fong’s appeal is rejected, the number of DAP representatives in the state assembly will be reduced from 12 to 11. DAP also won six parliamentary seats in Sarawak in the 13th General Election on May 5.

Earlier in Sept, DAP’s assemblyman for Luyang in Sabah, Hiew King Cheu quit the party and turned independent following a fallout with other Sabah DAP leaders.

Hiew backed Klias assemblyman Datuk Lajim Ukin from PKR as the Sabah opposition whip while the party backed Tamparuli assemblyman Datuk Wilfred Bumburing. — Bernama
