KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18 — An auxiliary policeman shot and injured the brother of his ex-girlfriend at the latter’s house in Kajang near here today, over what was believed to be a rejection of his engagement proposal by the woman’s family.

In the 8am incident at the double-storey house in Taman Megah, the suspect fired five shots in the direction of the 25-year-old man, hitting him once on the shoulder.

The rest of the shots went wide.

The policeman panicked and fled from the house before he was detained by the police.

Earlier, the 26-year-old ex-girlfriend’s brother had prevented the suspect from entering the house at the main gate.

At that juncture, the policeman became furious and jumped over the fence before whipping out a pistol and firing five shots at him.

The victim’s eldest sister, 29, told reporters: “My brother ran to the rear of the house after he was shot.

“About this time, eight members of my family managed to prevent the policeman from chasing my brother. When the policeman fled from the house, we alerted the police who eventually detained him.”

A police source said the injured victim was warded at the Kajang Hospital. His condition was reported to be stable.

Meanwhile, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar gave an assurance that appropriate action would be taken against the policeman if he had flouted the law.
