KOTA BAHARU, Nov 16 — Two university students drowned while bathing at a waterfall in Lata Renyuk, Jeli yesterday.
They were identified as Mohd Azeem Sameer Noor Azmi, 21, and Mohd Zulfikal Mohd Saupi, 20, who were from the Jeli Campus of the Universiti Malaya Kelantan.
The duo had gone to the waterfall with friends in three cars when the incident occurred about 4.30pm.
Jeli Fire and Rescue Department chief Assistant Superintendent Soleh Nasir said Mohd Azeem Sameer, of Klang, Selangor got into difficulties while swimming as he suffered cramps.
At that juncture, Mohd Zulfikal, of Panglima Bayu, Tanah Merah, Kelantan tried to save him.
“However, Mohd Zulfikal, who could not swim, tried to save Mohd Azeem Sameer, resulting in the two students drowning at the waterfall,” he said when contacted by Bernama here today.
He said Mohd Azeem Sameer's body was recovered at 5.28pm, and Mohd Zulfikal's body, eight minutes later. — Bernama
