MALACCA, Nov 15 — The police have detained two men to facilitate investigations into the attempted murder of three policemen near the Bukit Beringin public housing project in Masjid Tanah last night.

One of the suspects who was at the wheel of a car, had allegedly reversed the vehicle which struck the three policemen when the duo were stopped for inspection. The other suspect was a passenger.

In the incident at about 7pm, a police corporal sustained a broken hand and was warded at the Malacca Hospital while another corporal and an inspector sustained minor injuries.

Melaka Tengah police deputy chief Supt Muhammad Koey Abdullah said initial investigations revealed the suspects were involved in a spate of crimes in Malacca and Negri Sembilan, including blackmail, fraud and causing hurt.

“The suspects, in their 20s, will be investigated for attempted murder,” he said in a press conference here today.

In another case, the police busted a gang which had broken into houses in Tanjung Minyak and Tanjung Kling here, including that of a former Malacca state executive councillor, following the arrest of four men on November 11 and 12.

Seized from the suspects were various stolen items, including antique furniture, car and several electronic gadgets, as well as 10 branded watches worth about RM50,000.

Muhammad Koey said with the arrest of the suspects, the police had solved 10 burglary cases which were committed this year.

Meanwhile, the police arrested three men in connection with a spate of vehicle thefts in Melaka Tengah on November 5. — Bernama
