KUANTAN, Nov 15 — Arrest warrants have been issued for six followers of a deviationist group known as “Tuhan Harun” after they failed to appear in court today to a charge of possessing documents which contained elements which contradicted Islamic teachings.

Syarie judge Abdul Wahid Md Ali Al-Fakwie issued the order after the six did not turn up for mention at the Lower Syariah Court for the second time after failing to do so on August 27.

Husin Ismail, 43, Pius Anahong @ Mahdi Abdullah, 40, Mohd Khalilie Zazali, 31, Syahiszam Soid, 40, Mohd Nizam Mohd Salleh, 43, and Mohd Shahril Mohd Jaafar, 28, are charged with committing the offence at B16-1st Lorong Pandan Damai 2/201 here at 6.50pm on April 4.

They are charged under Section 165 of the Administration of the Religion of Islam and the Malay Custom of Pahang Enactment 1982 which provides a RM2,000 fine or one year’s jail or both, upon conviction.

The arrest warrants, applied by the Syarie Prosecutor’s Office, are effective tomorrow.

On May 14, the six man pleaded guilty to the charge which was read to them before Abdul Wahid.

Abdul Wahid had set August 27 for sentencing to enable the prosecution to verify the documents with the Pahang Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (Muip) that they contained elements which contradicted Islamic teachings.

The six were released on a RM1,000 bail each with one surety.

Prosecution was conducted by Pahang Islamic Religious Department (Jaip) Syarie prosecutor Mohd Fahmi Abd Jalil. — Bernama
