GEORGE TOWN, Oct 7 — Four Indonesian men were sentenced to death by hanging by the High Court here today after they were found guilty of trafficking in about 28kg of drugs four years ago.

Judge Datuk Zamani Abdul Rahim handed down the sentence after finding the defence by Dwi Suprianto Mei, 45, Fredy Hermawan, 42, Andy Paksi, 40, and Indra Mulyadi, 42, not trustworthy, mere denial and fictitious in nature.

“The court is satisfied and finds that the defence has failed to raise any reasonable doubts at the end of the defence case against the prosecution’s case.

“Therefore, the four accused are found guilty and to be hanged to death,” he said.

The four men were charged with trafficking in the drugs, comprising 10.74kg of methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) and 17.36kg of ketamine, at a house in Jalan Batu Ferringhi near here at 9.30pm on October 27, 2009.

The drugs were found during a raid by a police team at the house, believed to be the biggest drug-processing laboratory in Penang.

Deputy public prosecutor Suhaimi Ibrahim prosecuted, while Dwi Suprianto and Andy Paksi were represented by lawyer Ranjit Singh Dhillon, and Fredy Hermawan and Indra Mulyadi by lawyer Hussaini Abdul Rashid. — Bernama
