GEORGE TOWN, Sept 26 — A Form Three school prefect from a school in Sungai Nibong sustained a broken bone beneath the eye and serious injuries to his head after he was allegedly attacked by two Form Five students over a tie.

Unhappy with a remark from the prefect over the manner one of them was wearing his tie, the two allegedly roughed the prefect up, resulting in him sustaining facial injuries.

George Town district police chief ACP Gan Kong Meng said a police report has been lodged. Meanwhile, state education director Datuk Ahmad Tarmizi Kamaruddin said the incident was serious and the department would meet with the school’s student affairs department to sort the matter out.

“We have also spoken to the students’ parents and will seek an amicable solution,” he said.

The victim’s father, Mokhtar Shafardin, 58, hoped his son would have a speedy recovery.

“I received a call from the school informing me my son was injured,” said the technician.

“I was at work on the mainland and called my wife to check on his condition.”

Mokhtar wants the matter to be settled amicably soon.

He refused to allow The Malay Mail to photograph him and his son.

“The parents of the two boys who allegedly beat up my son have apologised when we met yesterday, and they even visited him at the ward,” he said.
