KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 20 — The High Court here today upheld the 10-year sentence handed down to three men convicted of causing the death of a trader four years ago.
Justice Kamardin Hashim in rejecting the appeal by Saiful Fadullah Kamal, 31, Roslee Abdul Razak, 47, and Muhammad Hafis Ahmad Rasdi, 21, to set aside the punishment imposed by the Sessions Court on January 18, 2011, said it had no merit.
However, the judge allowed the application by counsel Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla, who was representing Saiful Fadullah for a stay of execution of his sentence pending an appeal to the Court of Appeal.
The court also maintained Saiful Fadullah's bail of RM20,000 with one surety and ordered him to surrender his passport to the court and to report to the nearest police station once a month until disposal of the case.
Private sector worker Saiful Fadullah, trader Roslee and his assistant Muhammad Hafis were found guilty of fatally injuring Aziz Ramli, 46, at the Bandar Tasik Selatan LRT station in Cheras between 11pm on February 15, 2009 and 1.15am on February 16, 2009.
The prosecution was represented by deputy public prosecutor Monica Linsua. — Bernama
