KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 16 — The 50th Malaysia Day was celebrated by Malaysians throughout the country with various programmes held to promote the patriotic spirit.

In PASIR MAS, more than 3,000 participants from 56 contingents from government agencies and the private sector gathered at Stadium Mini Pasir Mas since 7am to mark the occasion, which was also attended by Kelantan Deputy Mentri Besar Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah.

Among the highlights were a silat show, a police baton charge and mock road accident rescue operation by Fire and Rescue personnel.

In TAPAH, the celebration was opened by Perak state executive councillor Datuk Saarani Mohamad followed by singing of the national anthem, Jalur Gemilang and 1Malaysia. 

More than 3,000 visitors thronged the venue and also joined National Service trainees in a “senamrobik” show besides visiting various booths mounted by government agencies.

In KUALA LUMPUR, arts activist Henzi Andalasa Nusantara Hasni Tamrin produced a video clip titled ‘Satu Hati Mata Hati’ to mark the occasion.

The clip highlights the importance of unity and for people to love their fellow men.

Harley Davidson Motorcycle Club member Norman Sulaiman, meanwhile, joined more that 2,500 “buddies” on convoy from Kuala Lumpur to Terengganu and Penang in celebrating the occasion.

He was met at KLCC where the Asia Harley Days 2013 is being held in conjunction with the Malaysia Day celebrations. 

In ALOR SETAR, Nurul Huda Yaccoup’s wish to deliver a baby on Malaysia Day came true when the 29-year-old gave birth to a bouncing baby boy weighing 3.2kg, her second child, via normal birth at 7.23am at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) here.

All in 12 Malaysia Day babies were born at the hospital as of noon, seven of them girls. — Bernama
