KOTA BARU, Sept 3 — The Human Resources Ministry is prepared to discuss with employers facing labour shortage after the government’s tough action through “Ops Bersepadu 6P”, an operation to weed out foreign illegals.
Its deputy minister, Datuk Ismail Mutallib said the ministry believed that certain sectors were affected by the 6P operation although it had not received any official report yet on the matter.
“If there are problems, the employers can come and discuss with the ministry. Ultimately, it (operation) will benefit employers by hiring foreign workers legally.
“What the government is doing is a good thing because this way, employers will get workers who enter this country through the proper procedures and are free from diseases and crime,” he told reporters after launching the Kelantan-level 1Malaysia Job Carnival, here, today.
In the integrated 6P operation launched since last Sunday, more than 2,000 foreign illegals have been detained for committing various immigration offences.
Ismail advised employers not to just think about cutting costs, as hiring workers legally would in the end benefit them and the nation.
Meanwhile, he noted that last year, more then 150,000 people managed to find employment through the JobsMalaysia portal.
“On the average, about 30,000 people surf the portal each day and until August 31 this year, the active job-seekers comprised 224,539 graduates and 196,554 non-graduates.”
On the two-day job carnival held at the Kelantan Trade Centre, he said some 6,000 job seekers were expected to apply for the more than 3,000 vacancies available in various sectors.
“There are 41 employers including 17 local ones and the rest from outside Kelantan participating in this job carnival,” he said.
Ismail also said that his ministry would be holding the National Skills Carnival and Expo 2013 at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park in Serdang from this September 26 to 30.
The carnival would be launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, he added. — Bernama
