PARIS, March 2 — Sonia Rykiel is paying homage to its iconic founder with a new 13-piece capsule collection.
The brand is launching “Rykiel Forever” to celebrate the colourful knitwear pieces that designer Sonia Rykiel made her name creating, WWD reports.
Rykiel, who passed away last August at the age of 86, was known in particular for her sweatshirts, which were often adorned with her signature colourful stripes.
The collection will include an updated version of Rykiel’s famous 1962 “poor boy” sweatshirt, a cardigan with its own scarf, a caped twinset, and a dress with a parachute lining. It will be fabricated in collaboration with Italian manufacturer Maglificio Miles.
“I felt that so close after the passing away of Sonia Rykiel, it was very important to celebrate the creativity and beauty that we have in-house,” Sonia Rykiel creative director Julie de Libran told WWD, adding that she wanted to: “Re-create these pieces so that they would not be forgotten, making them relevant for today.”
The news is the second big adjustment the brand has made over the last few months — in October 2016, it announced plans to close the “Sonia by Sonia Rykiel” diffusion line as part of a plan to reposition its flagship brand.
The “Rykiel Forever” collection will launch on March 15, priced from US$185 to US$1,600 (RM823 to RM7,119). — AFP-Relaxnews
