PETALING JAYA, Sept 21 — It’s essential to have your “five a day” if you want to stay healthy, according to health experts.

This, of course, refers to five servings of vegetables and fruits but most of us don’t even get half of that in a normal day.

Well, the founders of Reboot Pressed Juice Carmen Cheong, 29 and Eva Tam, 30 have just the solution. Drink it.

There are three pounds of fruits and vegetables in every 500ml bottle of Reboot Pressed Juice. This is achieved through cold press juicing. Unlike conventional juices that lose their nutrients due to the heat produced by rotary blades, cold-pressing retains all the vitamins and fibre after juicing.

“It takes time to produce a bottle of Reboot Pressed Juice compared to using an ordinary juicer. From preparation, where we triple wash our fruits and vegetables to bottling, it takes about half an hour,” said Tam.

Cold-pressing is part of the raw food, detoxing and cleansing movement that’s all the rage now.

“We do not add sugar, preservatives or water to our juices. All you get is 100 per cent natural goodness from the cold-pressing method. Every day, we would go to the market to get the freshest fruits and vegetables for Reboot Pressed Juice,” said Cheong.

“Cold-pressed juice is a living juice. All the nutrients are still in the juice after being processed. That’s why our juices can only be kept up to 72 hours in the fridge to ensure freshness. Juice companies out there pasteurise their juices so they can last longer. But only 10 per cent of the nutrients are left in the juice. Most of it is gone because of the preservatives and method of juicing,” said Tam.

What’s more, Reboot Pressed Juice tastes as good as it looks.

I bought two bottles the weekend before the interview: Green Guard and Passion Glow.

Green Guard is a combination of spinach, parsley, apple and lemon while Passion Glow consists of pineapple, passion fruit, orange and apple.

I love that it was thick, delicious and refreshing. Perfect after an hour of working out on a hot day!

Reboot Pressed Juice is priced at RM15 per bottle for the Green Guard, Passion Glow, Beet Wash and Purple Salve flavours while Cacao Almond costs RM12.

We plan to have a bridal package. Usually, women who are about to get married are concerned about their skin and body before their wedding. They want to look their best. A special cleanse kit would be great for them.” – Eva Tam

To ensure quality and freshness, they are made to order and you can pick it up at selected pick-up points in Klang Valley.

For health junkies who want a full body cleanse with cold-pressed juice, Reboot Pressed Juice has a trial cleanse and full cleanse programme.

The full cleanse consists of six juices for a period of one-day. Each bottle is marked with the time to consume the juice. The flavours are different from the regular Reboot Pressed Juice line.

“We use kale because it is an antioxidant and is one of the top superfoods,” said Tam.

Priced at RM99 for six bottles, you get Kale Detox, Turmeric Aid, Ginger Kale, Spiced Beet, Vital Purple and Almond Dream as part of the cleanse kit.

“I encourage people to do a cleanse either once a week or twice a month to stay healthy,” said Cheong.

The trial cleanse kit is RM49 for three bottles which includes Kale Detox, Turmeric Aid and Ginger Kale.

So, what are the benefits of a cold-pressed juice cleanse?

“You get clearer skin, regular bowel movements and you feel lighter,” said Tam.

She recommends that those planning to do the cleanse should eliminate oily foods from their diet before they start the cleanse. For optimum results, people should fast the entire day they are on the Reboot Pressed Juice one-day cleanse.

Reboot Pressed Juice made its debut in August, starting out officially at the Seek and Keep bazaar in Bangsar Shopping Centre recently.

What are future plans for Reboot Pressed Juice?

“We plan to have a bridal package. Usually, women who are about to get married are concerned about their skin and body before their wedding. They want to look their best. A special cleanse kit would be great for them,” said Tam.

In the future, Reboot Pressed Juice also plans to work with corporate clients to provide juices for meetings or company events. They have plans to have Reboot Pressed Juice in gyms, yoga centres and supermarkets as well.

Also in the pipeline are new recipes to add to the current 11 types of juices available. Tam said the recipes were a result of trial and error, tasting in the kitchen and adding nutritional superfoods.

One key defining characteristic of Reboot Pressed Juice is spices added to give the juice a kick.

Spices and condiments like turmeric and ginger are found in some of Reboot Pressed Juice such as Turmeric Aid and Ginger Kale.

Cheong and Tam emphasised that the nutritious value of the juice is more important than taste.
