SINGAPORE, April 7 — In a decision that will likely have hungry fans of messy meat dishes and delicious cocktails drooling, the founders of London’s MEATliquor announced today they will be opening their first international outpost next month at Duxton Road.

“The airport code of SIN alone suggested this might be the place for us,” the pair quipped. “Three days of eating and drinking later, we had our suspicions confirmed.”

That said, it wasn’t only the vibrant dining scene that attracted two of Britain’s most influential restaurateurs. This latest venture is in partnership with Ben Jones and Jacques Dejardin of The Blind Group, a Singapore-based company that operates British restaurant and bar Oxwell & Co, and cocktail bar Operation Dagger.

Founded by UK street food pioneer Yianni Papoutsis and Scott Collins, the London burger institution, which has been in the Top 100 Restaurants at the National Restaurant Awards for three consecutive years, is known for its creative takes on American-style comfort food. The menu in Singapore will feature all of its iconic dishes such as The Dead Hippie, Dirty Chicken Burger, Deep-Fried Pickles and Chilli Cheese Fries, as well as its unique range of cocktails that include a lager-topped margarita, aptly dubbed the Lagerita.

Jacques Dejardin, managing director of The Blind Group, said: “We can’t wait to introduce Singapore’s community of food lovers and globetrotters to all that MEATliquor has to offer. We have been fans of everything MEATliquor has done in the UK (and it will be) a very different new addition to the Singapore food scene.”

Proving that this is more than an attempt to leverage on Singapore’s already diverse offerings, the evolving menu will feature Singapore-centric signatures that will eventually be served in the UK. — Today
