ROMPIN, Aug 21 — The hosting of the annual Start In Tioman (SIT) programme has attracted more tourists, especially diving enthusiasts to visit Tioman Island.
Pahang Tourism and Culture Office director Idros Yahya said seven years ago, only eight participated in the programme and this year the number had risen to 185 participants from Malaysia and Singapore.
"Previously, SIT was only one of the events in the state's tourism calendar but due the overwhelming response, it has been established as one of the major events in the national tourism calendar beginning this year.
The impact of this event is that many of the participants have returned to the island to conduct diving activities with their friends," he told Bernama at the SIT 2015 in Damai Tioman Resort, Kampung Genting here today.
The four-day event beginning yesterday was also participated by 35 media practitioners as well as 46 participants who are taking diving license. — Bernama
