SAN FRANCISCO, June 25 ― A new legal music streaming service has just been launched by BitTorrent, in the form of a revamped and rebranded version of its Bundle legal music download platform. BitTorrent Now notably showcases the work of upcoming artists.

This new service offers on-demand streaming of music and videos via a mobile application. Like Spotify, and other applications of the kind, it's also possible to create playlists and follow favorite artists for notifications and updates.

In terms of content, BitTorrent Now differs from the big names of the business with a catalogue of music and videos mostly from independent artists, relatively unknown to the general public. Users can also purchase the content at any time. The platform is currently financed by advertising.

Originally, BitTorrent Bundle was a music download site offering new content from artists either for free or for a few dollars. Madonna, Lady Gaga, De La Soul, Moby and Thom Yorke (Radiohead) notably released exclusive content via the platform.

BitTorrent has developed all kinds of new services over the years, including an alternative browser (Maelstrom), an instant messenger (Bleep) and a file-sharing platform (Shoot).

BitTorrent Now will launch first of all as a website and Android app, with versions for iOS and Apple TV in the pipeline.
