BANGKOK, Aug 3 — Malaysia marched into the semi-finals of the Asian Netball Championships after beating Sri Lanka in the final Group B match here today.

Malaysian Netball Association secretary Zainon Md Noh who led the Malaysian contingent said the 38-32 win over Sri Lanka saw Malaysia top Group B which included Japan and Brunei.

“It was a closely fought match. The first quarter was tied 9-9 and Malaysia were only leading 18-17 in the second quarter before securing a comfortable victory,” Zainon told Bernama today.

Group A comprised Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Maldives.

Malaysia’s opponent in the semifinals would only be known tomorrow after the match between Hong Kong and Thailand, said Zainon.

Singapore are top of Group A while either Thailand or Hong Kong will finish second based on the outcome of tomorrow’s match. — Bernama
