KUALA LUMPUR, March 6 — Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh will not be needing a wardrobe stylist as long as her mother Janet is still around.
In an interview with NBC’s Today’s Sunday Sitdown, Michelle revealed to host Willie Geist that Janet had asked her not to wear pants to the Academy Awards on March 12.
The reason for Janet’s advice? It would make the Best Actress contender look short.
According to Michelle, Janet had called her earlier to advise the 60-year-old that she should not wear pants to the ceremony if she was attending.
“I was so naughty. I left her a message — ‘Oh, Mum, no, we tailor made the tuxedo for me. So I’m wearing pants to the Oscars’,” added the Everything Everywhere All At Once star.
Hearing that, Janet told Michelle to respond that she had changed her mind.
“When you wear pants you look short,” Michelle recalled of her mum’s quick retort, adding that they have a very interesting, beautiful relationship.
Michelle was recently named the Screen Actors Guild Awards 2023 winner for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role, making her the first Asian actress to take home the top honour.
