LOS ANGELES, April 25 — American actor Sam Rockwell will play a Nazi captain in Jojo Rabbit, directed by Taika Waititi, which also stars Scarlett Johansson.

Rockwell has joined Johansson on the cast of Waititi’s latest movie, Jojo Rabbit, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This Second World War drama sees the Oscar-winning actor play a Nazi captain who runs a Hitler Youth camp. Production is scheduled to start towards the end of spring.

The film follows a young German boy called Jojo who longs to join the Hitler Youth and whose imaginary friend is Adolf Hitler. When he discovers that his mother (Johansson) is hiding a Jewish girl in their attic, Jojo first tries to find a way to get rid of her, before starting to change his mind.

The Hollywood Reporter also states that Waititi will star in the movie as Jojo’s imaginary friend, Adolf Hitler. As well as directing, the New Zealand filmmaker is writing and producing the film for Fox Searchlight. It is the first movie collaboration between Rockwell, Johansson and Waititi, despite all three having worked on different Marvel movies. Rockwell played Justin Hammer in 2010’s Iron Man 2, Johansson will reprise the role of Black Widow in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War, and Waititi directed Thor: Ragnarok in 2017.
