LOS ANGELES, Oct 18 — The latest Dan Brown adaptation, Inferno, has gone straight to the top of the worldwide box office as it opened in international markets, according to the latest estimates from tracking company comScore.
Directed by Ron Howard and starring Tom Hanks and Felicity Jones, Inferno, which opens October 28 in North America, is the sequel to The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons, also based on Brown’s popular novels.
The movie has knocked Tim Burton’s latest fantastical film, Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children from the number one spot, which it had held for the past two weeks.
Ben Affleck action-thriller The Accountant rounds out the top three, with Chinese movie Operation Mekong still going strong at number four.
Another book adaption, The Girl On The Train, based on the 2015 debut novel from Paula Hawkins, has dropped from second place to fifth on its second week out.
