SEOUL, Sept 11 — Kim Hyun Joong’s ex-girlfriend, only identified as Choi, has given birth.
Her lawyer confirmed the news in a statement: “Ms Choi gave birth last week at a hospital in Seoul. Currently, mother and baby are healthy and they are receiving postnatal care.”
The statement also confirmed that a paternity suit would be filed against the “Boys over Flowers” actor.
“For a paternity test to be done, the father’s side must give permission. However, since Kim Hyun Joong is refusing that, we will be filing a paternity suit,” it read.
No further details were released about the baby and it is unclear if Kim is aware of the birth as he is currently completing his military service.
A representative of his management team told Scoompi.com, “We heard about the birth through the lawyer. Since Kim Hyun Joong is currently serving in the military, we have no way of knowing whether he is aware of this.”
The representative continued, “As it has been established before, after the paternity test is complete, Kim Hyun Joong will take responsibility if the child is his. The stance hasn’t changed.
“The lawsuit between Ms Choi and Kim Hyun Joong will continue as planned regardless of the birth.”
Meanwhile, Kim’s father has stepped forward to share his thoughts on the matter.
He told K Star in a phone interview, “We don’t know when the baby was born, whether the baby is a male or female, and haven’t been contacted at all. We had heard that the 12th would be the delivery date, so we patiently waited; instead we found out news of the birth through articles. We never even [directly] heard news of the birth so what do they mean they’re going to sue for refusing the paternity test? Shouldn’t Choi’s side ask us first whether we want to do a paternity test or not?”
He continued, “We’ll take the paternity test today and if the results are positive, we will take responsibility for the child. With the legal battle, we will continue to forge on without backing down.
“If born in a different household, the baby may have been blessed. I just hope that the baby won’t be hurt any more by either side.”
Relations between Kim and his ex-girlfriend have been acrimonious.
The legal battle between the two flared up in April when Choi filed a suit seeking 1.6 billion won (RM8.2 million) in damages for his alleged physical assault on her during their relationship.
Choi had also refused to hand over a medical certificate to prove her pregnancy.
