LOS ANGELES, May 12 — Wesley Snipes, Eva Longoria, Jennifer Lopez, Melissa George, Rob Lowe and America Ferrara will try to help NBC right its ship with next season’s programming.
The network is betting on 13 new shows, including five that will debut this fall, to help it earn back its status as the number one network in America.
Alongside “Chicago Fire”, “Chicago PD”, “The Mysteries of Laura”, “Law & Order: SVU”, “The Blacklist”, “Undateable” and “Grimm”, all returning for new seasons, a dozen new shows will also get their chance to shine.
Among these novelties, “Blindspot” has already become the most talked about pilot of the season due to its unique premise: an amnesiac woman is found naked in Times Square covered in tattoos relating to a conspiracy the FBI will have to unravel.
Wesley Snipes and 'Heroes' up first
Another show viewers are anxious for is the return of “Heroes”.
The plotline of “Heroes Reborn” is still a guarded secret, but we do know that Tim Kring’s show, starring Zachary Levi, Jack Coleman, Ryan Guzma and Masi Oka, will benefit from a highly coveted Thursday night slot along with “The Player”, a new show that marks Wesley Snipes’ first foray into television.
Formerly known as “Endgame”, this drama will center on a former sniper turned security expert who becomes the object of a conspiracy, forcing him to new extremes to save the lives of innocent people.
NBC will also give a shot to “Heartbreaker”, the story of one of the few female heart transplant surgeons.
Previously seen in “Grey’s Anatomy”, “The Slap” and “The Good Wife”, Melissa George will star. Only one new comedy is slated for the fall: “People Are Talking”.
Eva Longoria and Jennifer Lopez to wait for 2016
NBC’s mid-season has its own novelties in store, notably “Hot & Bothered” (aka “Telenovela”), Eva Longoria’s return in front of the cameras.
As for comedies, the network is betting on “Superstore”, a workplace comedy about employees of a megastore starring America Ferrara (“Ugly Betty”) and Ben Feldman (“Mad Men”), the return of “Coach”, with Craig T. Nelson reprising the iconic role that earned him an Emmy, and “Crowded”.
“Shades of Blue” ,the much-hyped cop drama starring Jennifer Lopez opposite Ray Liotta, will premiere in 2016, as will “Chicago Med”, the newest installment of the “Chicago” franchise, “You, Me and the End of the World” (aka “Apocalypse Slough”), starring Rob Lowe, and “Game of Silence”.
The latter, a series inspired by the movie “Sleepers”, revolves around a successful Atlanta attorney whose long-lost childhood friends reappear after 25 years.
When a secret they thought buried resurfaces, the friends band together once again to right the wrongs of their past.
