TORONTO, Sept 6 — Mobs of fans and photographers swarmed the opening night of the 39th Annual Toronto Film Festival.
David Dobkin’s “The Judge”, starring Robert Downey Jr, was selected as the opening movie. The star-studded drama also boasts Vera Farmiga, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Hollywood legend Robert Duvall.
The cast was excited to walk the red carpet at the highly respected festival. Shares Vera Farmiga: “Indeed, opening movie. I think that’s an extra special pat on the back. I love this town. I’ve filmed in this town, I’ve worked in this town, you know. Film festivals are there to kind of set a tone, and set an exploration, and check what’s vital.”
Sharing the same enthusiasm was Robert Duvall who had this to say: “Feels nice, feels great. ‘Cause it’s the first time I’m gonna see it. I haven’t seen it yet.”
In the film, Robert Downey Jr plays a high powered lawyer who must return to his home town to defend his father, the title judge, from accusations of murder. Making the movie gave the star a newfound respect for lawyers. “You know what, it’s an incredibly tough job. And I’m sure all of us know or have a friend or a family member who knows a lawyer that’s kind of a good lawyer.”
All of the stars seem to have had a great time working on the film. “It was a lot of fun. When we worked, we really worked, but off camera we went out to restaurants, joked around, had a lot of fun. Oh, it was great,” says Robert Duvall.
“The Judge” was produced by Downey and his wife Susan Downey, who are due to have their second baby together this November. They walked the red carpet together and addressed speculation about the child’s sex. “Well, it’s a girl. We’ve already told you. It’s okay,” shared Susan.
This is the power couple’s seventh film together, but we’re sure there will be many more to come from Team Downey. And in true Robert Downey Jr style, he had this to say: “Look, we are definitely the most powerful couple on the other side of these microphones. What we are is just like any couple. We’re people who wake up in the morning and try to make a go of what we’re gonna do. And I really just don’t wanna go to bed with her mad at me, so I’ll do whatever I have to do.” — Cover Media
