KUALA LUMPUR, July 19 — Bursa Malaysia ended marginally lower today on mild profit-taking in selected blue chips and in line with the weaker sentiment on regional bourses.
The benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) moved between 1,666.43 and 1,674.58 throughout the day before settling 0.29 of-a-point weaker at 1,670.55 from yesterday’s close of 1,670.84.
Gainers led losers by 424 to 376 with 369 counters unchanged, 532 untraded and 17 others suspended.
Volume improved to 1.88 billion units worth RM2.01 billion from 1.69 billion units worth RM1.65 billion yesterday.
A dealer said regionally, South Korea’s Kospi lost 0.21 per cent to 2,016.89, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng slid 0.6 per cent to 21,673.20, China’s Shanghai Composite Index shed 0.24 per cent to 3,036.20 while Singapore’s Straits Times dropped 0.46 per cent to 2,915.43.
The FBM KLCI also failed to test the expected resistance level of 1,671.87 as forecast by Alliance DBS Research earlier today.
Top weighted Maybank slipped one sen to RM8.16, TNB shed two sen to RM14.30, IHH Healthcare fell nine sen to RM6.55 and Petronas Chemicals dipped two sen to RM6.50.
Among active counters, Borneo Oil rose half-a-sen to 18.5 sen, Vivocom increased 2.5 sen to 28 sen and Hiap Teck gained two sen to 27 sen.
The FBM Emas Index advanced 12.46 points to 11,680.86, the FBMT 100 Index added 12.76 points to 11,379.87 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index rose 7.55 points to 12,253.99.
The FBM 70 went up 68.65 points to 13,239.24 and the FBM Ace was 75.92 points higher at 5,555.60.
The Finance Index gained 15.63 points to 14,270.47, the Plantation Index improved 25.72 points to 7,592.65 and the Industrial Index was up 7.46 points at 3,154.88.
Main Market turnover rose to 1.26 billion units worth RM1.89 billion from Monday’s 1.10 billion units worth RM1.54 billion .
ACE Market volume increased to 379.92 million shares valued at RM78.77 million from 329.40 million shares valued at RM63.59 million previously.
Warrants slid to 227.23 million units worth RM29.94 million from 263.61 million units worth RM38.43 million on Monday.
Consumer products accounted for 193.64 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products (253.51 million), construction (57.27 million), trade and services (472.01 million), technology (77.12 million), infrastructure (15.24 million), SPAC (8.86 million), finance (43.24 million), hotels (267,000), properties (100.09 million), plantations (32.39 million), mining (42,000), REITs (10.88 million) and closed/fund (6,700). — Bernama
