KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 17 — AmBank Group chairman Tan Sri Azman Hashim is optimistic that Malaysia’s gross domestic product (GDP) can sustain at five per cent next year despite global uncertainties.
“Looking at the global situation, we can see that US is doing better while there is some anxiety in Europe. Japan still has question marks and would probably invest more money in their system. “With that scenario, I would say that we can sustain our GDP at five per cent next year and that is good in the current world circumstances,” Azman told reporters here today after launching his autobiography titled ‘The Entrepreneur Banker’ - Biography of Tan Sri Azman Hashim.
He said the local banking system was stable compared to the banking systems in the US and Europe, that were facing difficulties. “In Malaysia, we are not affected very much and performing good. Bank Negara Malaysia is making sure that our financial system is stable. “The implementation of Goods and Service tax in April next year will help sustain the five per cent expectation,” he said. — Bernama
