KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 9 — Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) information chief Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan has questioned if there is selective prosecution in regards to the freezing of the party's account by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

He told Malay daily Sinar Harian that if the investigations are fair, why other parties with 'less cleaner' records have not been investigated.

“If we want to see money politics eliminated and that is our goal, all parties need to be investigated fairly.

“So what is happening now seems to be a selective investigation into Bersatu. There were dozens of parties that contested in the last GE15, investigate them all.

“It's quite funny when the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says there is no political interference from the government,” he was quoted as saying.

The Bukit Gelugor MP said this after holding a meeting with the Sinar Harian’s Rasuah Busters (Graft Busters) team at the Karangkraf Complex to discuss the re-establishment of the Malaysian Parliamentary Cross-Party Group (KRPPM).

Also present during the meet was Rasuah Busters Core Team member, Shah Hakim Zain; DAP representative, Khoo Poay Tiong (Kota Melaka Member of Parliament); Amanah representative, Azli Yusof (Shah Alam Member of Parliament) and PKR representative, Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh (Ledang Member of Parliament).

Wan Saiful added that several reports have been filed by Bersatu to the MACC so that the same investigation can be carried out on government parties.

“So we ask that with this report filed, the investigation be conducted fairly and immediately on government parties, Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN),” he said.

Touching on the MACC's investigation into Bersatu's account, Wan Saiful said that his side is giving full cooperation to the commission.

He said so far MACC had summoned several party leaders and party officials.

“I'm not sure how many, but those called included me. We prepared all the necessary documents and the process went smoothly and the MACC carried out its duties with full trust and in accordance with all aspects of the law,” he said.

Previously it was reported that Bersatu's account was frozen a day after the party disclosed its account statement.

The freezing was confirmed by MACC Chief Commissioner, Tan Sri Azam Baki.

According to him, the party's account has been frozen for the past few weeks to facilitate investigations under the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act.
