KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 24 — The Health Ministry today reported 3,346 Covid-19 cases and 11 deaths in the past 24 hours.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the country also reached a record high of 4,427 recoveries.

This brings the total cumulative active cases to 41,677 and deaths to 678.

“Selangor recorded the highest daily with 950 cases or 39.5 per cent from the total new cases recorded today.

“From this total, 805 cases came from Covid-19 screenings done on active cluster’s close contacts.

“This is followed by 431 cases in Sabah and 390 cases in Kuala Lumpur,” Dr Noor Hisham said in a statement this evening.

He added that from the new cases recorded today, 242 cases involved prison, lockup and detention centre clusters.

As for the deaths, Dr Noor Hisham said the 11 deaths included three from Sarawak, two each from Sabah, Terengganu and Johor, while Melaka and Selangor reported one death each.

He added that 265 patients are currently being treated in intensive care with 102 requiring respiratory assistance.

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said a total of nine new Covid-19 clusters were recorded by the Health Ministry.

Eight of which involved workplaces and one involving a detention centre.

Of the workplace clusters, two were reported in Johor, two in Sabah, and one each in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Negri Sembilan and Putrajaya, while the detention centre cluster was detected in Tembok, Taiping.

Dr Noor Hisham said there are currently 348 active clusters while 385 clusters have ended including two which ended today — the Semambau and Keris Residence clusters.
