KUALA LUMPUR, May 29 — Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s security detail was revoked as he does not currently count as a former prime minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said today.

The prime minister said his predecessor does not share that status since he is currently under investigation for alleged wrongdoings.

“He is under investigation. So he doesn’t represent the past prime ministers.

“But if he is found innocent, he will get the same treatment as other prime ministers,” he said.

Meanwhile, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun has dismissed Najib’s claims that his police and security escort was revoked by the federal government.

Fuzi said the police will follow the standard operating procedure and provide Najib with the security detail that is usually accorded to a former prime minister.

“As a former prime minister, he has certain eligibility which we will abide by and maintain some aides-de-camp, bodyguards and drivers.

“We will scale down from the previous number, but not everyone is revoked,” he told reporters after a breaking fast event with the police force, also attended by Dr Mahathir and Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Earlier, Najib had on his Facebook page said all his security escorts had been officially revoked except for an aide-de-camp.
