IPOH, May 1 — Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Mohamad Hanadzlah, who is defending his Tambun parliamentary seat in the 14th General Election (GE14), has penned a song titled Tambun Untuk Tambun (Tambun for Tambun) to draw the attention of his constituents.

The Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate said he was inspired to come out with the lyrics and melody of the song three days prior to the announcement of Perak BN candidates, and that he was confident it would create a positive mood for his campaign.

“We don’t play attacking game during the campaign. This song will bring us together and make us stronger for this (general) election,” he told a press conference after joining the Manjoi residents for breakfast at Kampung Tengku Hussin Baru here today.

Among the lines in the lyrics read: “Tambun untuk Tambun, Tambun Bumi Kita. Mari Kita Bersama Mempertahankan Tambun”, “Kita bangunkan Tambun untuk anak kita”, “Kita bangunkan Tambun dibawah Barisan Nasional”, “Bersama Barisan Nasional kita terus mara”.

(Tambun for Tambun, Tambun is our land. Let us defend Tambun together, we build Tambun for our children, we build Tambun under the Barisan Nasional, we move forward with the Barisan Nasional).

Ahmad Husni resigned as Second Finance Minister on June 27, 2016, and stepped down from all his posts in Umno and BN, at the federal, state and division levels, but remained as Tambun Member of Parliament (MP), the seat which he has held since 1995.

For the May 9 polls, he is being challenged by Perak PPBM chairman Ahmad Faizal Azumu and State PAS Dewan Ulama deputy head Muhamad Zulkifli Mohd Zakaria.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Husni said he was confident that the BN would win with a bigger majority in Tambun and its two state seats, namely Hulu Kinta and Manjoi, which would be contested by Tambun Umno Division chief Datuk Aminuddin Hanafiah and Mohamad Ziad Mohamed respectively.

He also said the sentiment at grassroots level had been impressive this time around as compared to previous general elections.

“I believe that BN will have the upper hand in the contest for both the parliamentary and state seats. In addition, the BN and Umno election machineries are also at their best,” he added. — Bernama
