IPOH, Feb 3 — A 21-year-old motorcyclist died today after crashing into a fallen lamp post, which belongs to the Taiping Municipal Council, at Jalan Datuk Sri Kamaruddin.
In the incident which occurred around 2.40am, the deceased Priven Rajendran, who works in a private company, died on the spot.
Taiping police district chief Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Taib said the accident was believed to have been caused by the fallen lamp post which obstructed the road.
“The deceased could not have seen the fallen lamp post as the road was descending from a flyover and there was a bend as well, which blocked the view ahead.
“A tree had also fallen at the place. The condition of the road was wet at the time of the incident,” he said in a WhatsApp message.
The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless and dangerous driving.
